For their third matchday in the Arkema Première Ligue, Montpellier FC hosted a groundbreaking initiative led by MGEN and the LFFP: a giant tifo raising awareness of teenage girls dropping out of sport.
One figure sums up the issue: among teenage girls who stop playing sport, nearly one in two (45.2%) do so against their will. To shed light on this reality, MGEN launched its campaign, “14 is no age to retire from sport.”
A historic tifo
To bring this message to life, the campaign introduced a groundbreaking initiative: the first-ever giant tifo in women’s football. It was unveiled during the Montpellier FC–OM match in the Arkema Première Ligue, at the Mosson stadium.
Its message is simple: at 14, no girl should have to retire from sport.
Our players are taking action
To give the campaign even greater impact, a video was shown in the stadium before kick-off as the tifo was unveiled. It featured three Montpellier FC professional players — Airine Fontaine, Laura Bourgouin and Ella Palis — speaking with four young players from the club’s academy: Soanne Lunel, Pearl Aristor Heraibi, Romy Raphanel and Chloé Roche, all playing at U14 level.
Together, they encouraged young girls to keep playing sport, to stay involved or to come back to it, and above all, to take their rightful place in sport.
Through this initiative, the club aims to highlight the importance of enabling young girls to continue participating in sport, at every level.
Football as a catalyst
For MGEN, the Ligue Féminine de Football Professionnel has proven to be much more than a partner. Clotilde Truffaut, MGEN National Delegate, explains: “We found more than an engaged partner: we found a true ally. Our belief is simple: by joining forces, we can make football a powerful catalyst for encouraging young girls to stay in sport, return to it and take their rightful place.”
Montpellier FC is proud to have hosted this initiative at the Mosson and to stand behind a message that goes far beyond the pitch.
