Two Matches, Two Essential Causes
Throughout October, Montpellier FC is putting health at the heart of its initiatives, supporting two major public health issues: women’s health and mental health. Each cause will be highlighted during a home match, with the belief that football can be a powerful tool for raising awareness.
October 17: Women’s Health vs. HAC
On Saturday, October 17, at 6 p.m., Montpellier FC will host Le Havre (HAC Féminines) for a match dedicated to prevention and screening. For this occasion, the Hérault Committee of the French League Against Cancer will be the match’s main partner, alongside the Endozen association and the CPTS (Local Health Professional Communities).
Information stands will be set up around the stadium, staffed by volunteers and healthcare professionals ready to engage with the public. Half-time will be the highlight of the evening: beneficiaries of the League Against Cancer will take to the pitch to take part in a penalty shootout challenge. For every goal scored, Montpellier FC Association will donate to the League, up to a total of €500. Supporters will also be able to contribute directly through an online fundraising campaign, accessible via a QR code inside the stadium and open throughout the match. The campaign will close at the end of the evening.
As part of the club’s commitment, the players took part in a workshop led by Maryam Bini, founder of the HAOMAH brand, focusing on the theme “Periods & Elite Sport.” The menstrual cycle, endometriosis and their impact on athletic performance were all discussed. These topics are too often overlooked in professional football, but here they were addressed openly, with the players themselves at the heart of the conversation.
Tickets for the match are available here.
October 31: Mental Health vs. OL Lyonnes
On October 31, when Montpellier FC faces Olympique Lyonnais (OL Lyonnes), mental health will take centre stage through an initiative combining art and solidarity, in partnership with Montpellier University Hospital (CHU de Montpellier – Hôpital La Colombière), the club’s new impact and engagement partner.
Teenagers undergoing treatment have created drawings that will be printed on unique football shirts, which will be sold to raise funds for the hospital. Awareness stands and opportunities to discuss various mental health topics will also be available around the stadium.
