Montpellier FC Takes Action for Mental Health

October 27, 2026

On October 31, during their match against OL Lyonnes, Montpellier FC will shine a special spotlight on mental health. The players will wear unique jerseys featuring drawings created by patients from the Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Addiction Services at Montpellier University Hospital (CHU de Montpellier). This initiative brings together sport and creativity to raise public awareness of mental health and provide tangible support to the teams who care for patients every day.

When the Pitch Becomes a Space for Mental Health Expression

Created during workshops held within the department, these drawings tell unique and personal stories. Some represent what brings comfort, provides strength and helps people move forward. Others express the challenges and mental health conditions as experienced and perceived by the patients themselves.

By wearing these creations during a match, the players become ambassadors for a message that goes beyond sport. Football provides a platform for these personal expressions, helping to open up conversations about mental health among supporters and far beyond the pitch.

Charity Jerseys in Support of the Fonds Guilhem

Following the match, the jerseys worn by the players will be available for purchase on Montpellier FC’s official website from Monday, November 2.

50% of the sale price of each jersey will be donated to the Fonds Guilhem at Montpellier University Hospital, helping to fund initiatives that support medical innovation, improve the patient experience and provide support for healthcare professionals.

Beyond its symbolic significance, this initiative gives supporters the opportunity to take part in a charitable campaign and support the teams at Montpellier University Hospital in their work providing care and support to patients.

A Message from the President of Montpellier FC

“A football club has a strong sense of responsibility that extends far beyond the pitch. Mental health affects us all, and we must help break the silence surrounding it. By wearing these patients’ drawings, our players are giving visibility to stories, emotions and personal journeys that deserve to be heard. I am particularly proud of this initiative, carried out in partnership with Montpellier University Hospital, because it reflects one of our core beliefs: sport truly comes into its own when it serves everyone who brings it to life through their passion.”

— Paul Bouffard, President of Montpellier FC
